About The Event

'Million eyes International Short Film Festival' signifies the objective of reaching the message of eye donation to one million people through this film festival. Eye donation being a global requirement, we invite participation from people across the world.

Theme

Eye donation - An agent of social change.

What we look for?

We look for creative ideas that can motivate and inspire people to donate their eyes.

WHO WE ARE

MILLION EYES is part of the efforts by Project Vision to spread the eye donation movement across the globe. Project Vision is the response to the situation of 39 million people across the globe being blind. India is home to the world’s largest number of blind people with 15 million persons. (WHO 2010).

Its a global problem that affects about 40 million people across the world, with countries like India bearing the brunt of it with 15 million of them. Though 20% of them could get sight through a corneal transplant, eye donation has not become part of our culture. Most visually challenged people die waiting for an eye, without ever seeing themselves or the world. We have collaborated with Darsana cultural centre to conduct this film festival

Testimonals

The concept of eye donation is purely charity and it is for the benefit of the society and it is totally voluntary. Since this eye donation is becoming a commonplace now, contests like this will create a lot of awareness amongst people and the there should be no hesitation for eye donation for anybody due to any reason. Such awareness programs create a huge impact and they give light to many peoples lives.

The most important aspect of an eye donation movement is that , When you can be a reason for somebody to see the world again through you why should one think. One can give life to two blind people after death and that can be the most precious moment of their life. Through the short film festival, if this awareness could reach out to the public and if there are more people coming forward that is the biggest take away.

When one person can give sight to two people after they die can any other deed be more nobler than this ?. That is when I could understand that the enormity of the problem can be mitigated only through more awareness. This can be made possible if many people participate in the contest of short film making on eye donation and that's how Million eyes has taken shape. It is a great pleasure to be a part of such a cause.

Iam very thankful for the the donors who helped me living my life after I lost my eyesight when I was 25. The whole concept of eye donation gives the precious feeling of living once again with more responsibility than earlier. I want to convey the message that being a part of the film contest will make many people aware of this concept of eye donation and light peoples lives through a vision.
